Relevance and History

Kuari Pass is a medium duration trek, which can be done between 2 weekends. The key highlights are some of the most beautiful sceneries in Uttarakhand. The trek is easy, and can be done by people of average fitness levels. This is an ideal trek for small groups and corporate teams. The trek will give a complete experience, right from self supported journey to camping in wilderness. The itinerary is easy paced, and will give ample time to the participants to enjoy the surroundings at leisure. When Lord Curzon was Viceroy of India, he undertook several treks in the Garhwal, including one over the Kuari Pass to Joshimath and since then it has come to be known as Curzon's trail. The main attraction of Curzon's trail is the majestic view of the Twin Peaks of Nanda Devi--the main summit (7816 m), which is the highest peak situated completely within India and the east summit (7434 m) of Nanda Devi, Kamet (7756 m), Dronagiri (7066 m) and Hathi Parbat (6727 m) and Ghori Parvat (6708 m). Along the trek we'll pass through pristine Rhododendron, Oak and Deodar forests. Rare Himalayan flora and fauna found in abundance on the Curzon's trail. As the Curzon Trail takes you through lush green fields, remote villages and virgin forests. Providing an enchanting view of the imposing peaks of Nanda Devi , Kamet ,Chaukhamba, Dronagiri and Hathi-Ghodi Parvat,It takes you through lush green fields, remote villages and virgin forests. The arms length view of ranges like the Mt.Nanda Devi, Kamet , Dronagiri and Hathi-Ghodi Parvat, is the reward that awaits the trekker atop this pass. When Lord Curzon trekked this route he started from Ramni to reach Kauri pass. We shall be trailing the same path as did Curzon, but in the reverse direction, starting from Ramni and then climbing the pass. The maximum height reached during the course of trekking is 4268 mts and the trek is generally not very difficult.

Best Time to Visit

Though Kauri pass can be visited in any month but if you dream of any snow trek, it would the best time in late December early Jan when complete trek will be covered in thick layer of snow.

How to Reach

By Road

Nearest road connectivity is at Ghat village or Joshimath which are well connected by roads to major cities of Uttarakhand. Anyone can reach Rishikesh or Kotdwara by train or bus from Delhi. Anyone coming through air will have to come to Jolly Grant Airport, Dehradun.The distance beyond this have to be covered by road either through bus or taxies.


By Train

Nearest railheads are at Rishikesh and Kotdwara , which are connected with major cities of North India. The distance beyond this has to be covered by road either through bus or taxies.


By Air

Nearest airport is Jolly Grant Airport located at Dehradun. It is connected by direct flights to Delhi at regular intervals. The distance beyond this has to be covered by road either through bus or taxies

  • Driving directions from Delhi:
  • Delhi to Rishikesh (239 Kms)
  • Rishikesh to Devprayag (74 Kms)
  • Devprayag to Srinagar (33 Kms)
  • Srinagar to Rudraprayag (88 Kms)
  • Rudraprayag to Karanprayag(85 Km)
  • From here there are different routes to Kuari pass.
    One route is through Nandprayag and Ghat. This is the longest trekking route. (Ghat - Ramni - Chechni Binayak- Jhinjipani - Panarani - Domabitti - Kuari Pass - Gailgarh - Gorson - Auli - Joshimath)

    Another route is from Joshimath and Dhak village. This is the shortest trekking route. (Dhak - Chitrakhana - Tali Top - Khullar - Tali Top - Auli - Joshimath)

    There is yet another route through Nandprayag and Sailbagarh on the banks of river Nandakini. The trek distance falls between the above two routes. (Sailbagarh - Ghooni - Jhinjhi - Pana - Sartoli - Dhakwani - Khullar - Tali Top- Auli)
